However, walking to lose weight does involve a few techniques. At the end of the day, any calories burnt by exercising are a good idea. But then, just a simple stroll will not help you burn off enough calories to see substantial weight loss. So walking to lose weight needs a certain routine, and then there are a few things you should keep in mind. Let us discuss these.
Tips for walking to lose weight:
•	Walk for longer durations - If walking to lose weight is your goal, you must try and increase the time you spend walking every day. If you started with a short 20 minutes walk on week one, try and push it to 40 minutes in the second week and by the third week you should be walking for about 75 minutes. When you do this, your body doesn't get used to a pattern and you will notice that you continue to burn off calories without hitting a plateau. Keep in mind to walk only 5 days a week and you can also alter the time you spend on your evening walk every second day.
•	Walk faster - Any kind of walking will make you lose weight. But if you want to see the pounds melting faster, increase the pace a notch. Try brisk walking or power walking. This works especially well for those who find it hard to jog or run. Fast walking will burn almost as many calories as a light jog. 
•	Try intervals - For a more effective workout, try walking to lose weight with varied intervals. If you walk really fast for 10 minutes, reduce your pace for the next 10 minutes. This will keep your muscles working hard and the varied paces will work out different muscles in your legs.
•	Walking uphill or downhill is great - Love a challenge? Then you must try walking uphill or downhill. When walking to lose weight, remember that walking up a hill will help you burn more calories, as it takes more effort.
•	Wear the right shoes - Wearing the right shoes for walking to lose weight is almost as important as timing your walk or keeping a track of the pace. This is because the wrong shoe can cause unwanted injury, which can hinder with your regular workouts and put a dent in your weight loss program. So choose your shoes wisely - preferably shoes meant for walking or jogging only.
•	Walk on different surfaces - If you walk on roads and pavements, once a week walk on soft grass. The change in surface will work out your muscles in a different way, toning your legs to perfection.

Why is walking to lose weight such a good idea?
While some people swear that walking isn't effective enough to lose weight, there are others who simply love walking and find it the best workout to stick to. Unlike the gym, walking doesn't require special moves or special equipment, so it makes for the easiest workout to stick to. Missed your morning walk one day? Don't worry; instead walk to the supermarket in the evening and walk back with the heavy grocery. And there is your workout!
